Yahoo Mail gets a new interface design

12 December 2012

New Yahoo MailYesterday saw the launch of Yahoo! Mails’ new updated look, designed to greatly improve loading times and user interaction with the mail client. This is a major upgrade since 2011 that had been worked on from 2010 and the first under new Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer.

Yahoo Mail is now set to be more slicker to compete more favorably with Gmail and Outlook from Microsoft which also recently had an overhaul of interface.

Writing on the Yahoo! Blog Marissa Mayer went into what users can expect from the updated version and new mobile apps, “You’ve told us loud and clear that you want fewer distractions when it comes to email. You want to quickly login, communicate, and get on with your day. And we’ve listened. Starting today, the new Yahoo! Mail is fast, easy and available anywhere you go. These improvements will be available on all major platforms: Web, Windows 8, iPhone/iPod touch and Android.”

There are touches to speed up user functionality with better search, organizing of messages, clearing unwanted items, infinite inbox scrolling and less importance on showing advertisements within the client. Mayer goes onto say, “We’ve redesigned the new version of Yahoo! Mail with speed in mind — getting through your emails is faster than ever before. We’ve also made your inbox more intuitive and easier to navigate, allowing you to focus on what matters most: your messages. And, because mobile is everything these days, Yahoo! Mail now has a consistent look and feel across devices.”

The roll out will take place over the next few days with some getting to change before others will do. Since the arrival of Mayer, this is one of the first big changes coming to Yahoo. Mayer was brought in to help the struggling giant and Mail is one of the most popular destinations on the Yahoo! portal, so its only right to get it upto scratch and on par with the other major email players.
