30 October 2012

Google Nexus 4The next smartphone from Google built in partnership with LG and running the latest version of Android OS, will be available to buy from November 13th. The Nexus line of smartphones are running the pure vanilla Android OS as built by Google and with no other software added on or customized, as such you will see on phones from other manufacturers or network operators; this makes for a fast user experience. For the Nexus 4 its LG who was the chosen one to make the actual hardware of the phone.

Inside there is a snappy 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor and 2GB of RAM to seamlessly handle all the apps and games you could want. The phone is one of the first to have the latest Android OS, being Jelly Bean 4.2 and the fastest so far. The screen is covered with Gorilla Glass and measures 4.7 inch with a resolution of 1,280×768 giving an iPhone 5 level of pixel density at 320 ppi. There is an 8 MB camera on the back able to take 360 degree ‘Sphere Photos’ and can shoot full 1080p video. On the front for video calls is a 1.3 MB camera. The battery weighs in at 2,100 mAh to give about 15 hours of talk time according to LG. This battery can also be charged wirelessly by placing it on a provided special charging mat.

So, a very beefy fast smartphone with latest hardware and OS plus hi definition display, but heres the best part, it can be had for just $299 (£239 in the UK) for the 8GB storage version and $349 (£279) for 16GB. The phone is comparable in spec to the iPhone 5 but very aggressively priced and should definitely do well in number sold. The Nexus 4 can be bought online direct from Google via this link.
