Apple have made the next update to the iOS available as a free download from its website. iOS 6 includes over 200 new features. This is the second part of Apple’s major releases this year, the first was the launching of the iPhone 5 and new iPod versions and should be an ideal upgrade for people with previous iPhones. Its always wise to do a back-up of data before doing any sort of major software update and this case is no different. The update can be done via iTunes if the new version 10.7 is already installed on a computer, or if you are on iOS 5, over-the-air which basically means over a local Wi-Fi network. The wireless update can be a simpler process as it is by doing whats known as “delta updates”. This is where only the apps and files that have changed from iOS 5 that will be download and installed, rather than first manually downloading the full 500MB update. The delta updates are alot smaller since only changing some files and not all. As the process might take some time its good idea to have charged battery or power supply near by, as switching off mid way through can have dire consequences. The iOS 6 compatible devices are, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, the iPad 2, the new iPad and the iPod Touch 4th and 5th generation.
