Nokia together with Microsoft launched the new smartphone in New York with another event happening simultaneously in Finland, where Nokia is based. Called the Nokia Lumia 920 the smartphone has hardly been a major surprise of when and what it would feature. This is one of those make or break times for Nokia and they are pinning high hopes on this latest phone. Microsoft too, is keen to show off its Windows 8 suite of Operating Systems due to be launched in late October, with the mobile version being one flavor.

Nokia is answering many critics and flaws of its last smartphone, the Lumia 900, which was running an older Microsoft OS, the Windows 7 mobile.  But its all change under the hood where most of the upgrades have been. Inside there is a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU, 1GB of RAM and 32GB of storage space. The screen is 4.5inch HD+ with 768 x 1280 pixels, getting about 332 ppi pixel density. The PureView camera from the Nokia 808 is included but at a resolution of 8.5MB shooting full HD at 30fps and there is a secondary camera with 1.3MB.  Much time seems to have been taken over the main camera, where the Lumia 920 has an F/2.0 aperture with tiny springs and stabilization to get the lens to shoot a very steady image. There is also a sensor that Nokia claims can capture 5 to 10 times the light of other smartphones. The Lumia 920 comes with NFC and wireless charging built in to charge the Li-Ion 2000 mAh battery, which Nokia say can get most people through the day before re-charging is required.

With Windows 8 OS, brightly colored Windows 8 Live tiles are once again on the start screen, showing more updates and taking up more of the screen area. The range of colors for the smartphone are just as bright; black, gray, red, yellow and white, and now more of a shiny and polished look. There is no date yet of availability or any set prices of the Nokia Lumia 920.
