Quad core system on a chip coming soon from Intel
Documents leaked on the Chinese search website Baidu has suggested that Intel will soon release a quad core System-on-a-chip or SoC.The SoC, codenamed ValleyView, will be have the 22-nanometer architecture, “Silvermont”, using Intel’s Atom chip design to be used in mobile and embedded devices, where chips such as ARM, Nvidia and SnapDragon currently rule the market.
ValleyView will feature integrated graphics processing unit (GPU) with four “Gen 7” graphics engines that will provide up to a seven times increase in performance compared to the GPU on E600 series Atoms, dual or single channel memory controller with support for up to 8 GB of DDR3L-1333 memory, image coprocessor, USB 2.0 and 3.0, HD audio and display controller that will include HDMI interfaces. The chip will be available in 1, 2 or 4 cores with 512mb L2 cache and clock speeds from 1.2GHz to 2.4GHz. According to the leaked documents the SoCs will be released sometime in the last quarter of 2013.
