iOS 6 will not come with YouTube app installed

8 August 2012

no youtube app in iosIn the next beta of iOS 6 for developers to play with Apple have omitted another Google software, this time the pre-installed YouTube app. Instead YouTube videos can be viewed via the Safari web browser.

Apple have said in a statement that, “Our license to include the YouTube app in iOS has ended; customers can use YouTube in the Safari browser and Google is working on a new YouTube app to be on the App Store”. The YouTube app will still be included in previous iOS versions. Now that in future users will have to install the app from Apple’s App Store, its expected to be very popular download. This maybe a good thing for end users as the old YouTube app has infrequently been updated. Google will hopefully cater with better features and should be easily able to get through Apples strict App process.

Moving forward, Apple appears to be distancing itself more from Google, this latest omission is the 2nd one, the 1st being Google Maps with iOS instead having in house built mapping application featuring 3D city views and turn-by-turn navigation. There are currently many more Google apps on Apples App Store than the other way around, so still there is demand for Google Apps. The next device to come with iOS 6 will be the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini which are likely to be released sometime later in September.
